Slope of Hope with Tim Knight: Buying TWM

  • Giledain · 5 months ago
Me, having found the Maker's Mark (ticker symbol: BOOZ), am now playing Beethoven's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra to calm my nerves.

His one and only violin concerto, amazingly enough. Trust Beethoven to write arguably the greatest piece for violin ever and then decide, "Nyeah, good enough. Now for something completely different."

Here's a taste, with hot hot hot Anne-Sophie Mutter as soloist

Very nice indeed. And, she is pretty ...

Here's one of the best percussionists ever, except he's a pianist:

Goddamn, that was amazing! I don't think I've every heard so many perfectly executed stylistic changes in such a short time. Wow... thanks.
  • heywally · 5 months ago
He was unbelievable. My parents used to play his stuff a lot in the 50's and then I rediscovered him in my 30's or so. I recommend "Concert By The Sea" a live recording of his done in Carmel in 1955.

    Ms Mutter is terrific.

Funny now how everyone in the media is talking about the H&S fail. hmmmmmm

It's deja vu time. Are we reliving 2001, 2002, or 2003?

Giledain started this and it has been troubling me all day. He's loaded now, so its all his fault.

    E) Short-Term Sideways ... with a break out above near resistance to be proven before changing this stance ...

Spread trading may prove to be the best strategy on this light summer volume and price control by the big MM's and institutions ...

Now you've made me nostalgic. For the '66 SS, not getting married every four years.

Boys & girls, y'all have a great weekend. I'm almost flat after cashing in a nice move on SRS, with only a short position open on CAKE, awaiting whatever comes next week.

I wish they did not have things like this in the media -- because, now the drop (if any) will be that much shallow. The more bullish the public sentiment, the harder they fall.

    Thanks for the links anyways.

You are of course assuming that the average investor will care or will pay attention.
I do not think this will affect the drawdown in the slightest. The longer it takes the deeper it will be.

Just curious, what is the single inverse of IWM?
  • Giledain · 5 months ago
    MWI?

Edit: sorry, being a bear of little brain I get inverse mixed up with converse with reverse.

Re-edit: being a contrite bear as well, I found RWM. 1x Russell 2000 inversed...

... and here I thought the Friday bell rang and I missed it. I'm sure the answer will improve within the next couple of hours and you don't even have to change it. ;-)

I can't believe there is enough buying power/shorts left for a squeeze into the close but we shall see. Betting not via 100% cash.

Skies just opened up and we are being bombarded with hail. Now the thunder. Quite dramatic. (My office is wall to wall windows on three sides).
  • TradingBandit · 5 months ago
Sounds as dramatic as this market. I see lightning everytime I look at the screen.

    NEW POST
  • VirginiaJim · 5 months ago
Couldn't wait for QQQQs to hit 40.53 which is the 61.8% Fib. It got to 37.57, a penney above the 50% Fib and I bought 34 August puts at an ave in of $.23. 2400 contracts (240,000 shares). I want them to pin today's expiration down to 36 but I expect they'll squeeze the bears (now me) for one last drop of blood. Haa, I still have powder to burn.
  • KC · 5 months ago
May I ask what your FIB timeline is? My Fib lines are not aligning with yours.

BTW: I greatly appreciate your posts VJ!
  • VirginiaJim · 5 months ago
Here's the chart but the points have changed, Fib 50% is a little bit higher. I hate the inaccuracy of Stockcharts and I really should take the time to compute exact Fibs from official market data. I guess its good enough for a wannabe.

As you might guess from the chart, I expect one more wave up to capture the 61.8%, but a dump before then (see red dashed line, just a guess). I just read Prechter's Elliott Wave Theorist and he's not, appaently, not satisfied the wave structure and bull run is in.

Tim, interesting that you are posting Bollinger Bands. I don't recall you doing so in the past. I usually try to stay away from technical indicators other than a basic momentum indicator such as RSI and MACD. I decided a couple of days ago to add BB as an additional part of my selection process to increase my selectivity. Thought it was a funny coincidence that you used BBs in your post today.
