One other thing, which is the hardest to explain, is what I call
reading the tape. My son asks me at least once a week to explain to
him how to do it. What's weird, is while I can explain what I see on
say the SPY, I'm not sure exactly what it is that will often clue me
in to how the market will move several days in advance. I do know
volume is probably the single most important thing about a chart you
need to watch. It is also the single most truthful thing about a
chart. Think of it as a lie detector. If volume doesn't confirm the
pattern price is printing, then odds increase you're being duped by da
boyz.

If you REALLY want to be safe about it, you can sign up for a free account at trashmail.com. It creates an email address that forwards to your real address for a set amount of time. You can then exchange real email addresses and expire the trashmail address, plus you can create new trashmail addresses as needed. It's great for signing up for services that might spam you but require you to verify yourself through email.

Speaking of cops in the room....

A few years ago I was in a New York City restaurant with my sister, who suddenly asked me: "Who's eating here?"

"Huh?" I didn't get it.

She pointed out that there were secret service people all over the place. I don't know how she could tell, but she could. She went over to one of the people whom she identified as secret service to ask whom they were protecting.

Possibly he shouldn't have told her, but he did: it was the vice president of the U.S.

The V.P's back was turned to us, but once his identity had been pointed out to me, I recognized him.

That was the first time I ever went anywhere where there really WERE cops in the room -- that I knew of.

You are most welcome, TM, and it's nice of you to inquire about my son's incredible adventure this summer. He's still in Uganda, and I'm counting the days (11) until I get him back home! His experiences will no doubt be life-altering, hopefully in a positive way. He has spent most of his time working in a refugee camp outside of Kampala, but has also had the opportunity to go on safari, go whitewater rafting on the Nile, and attend a lavish wedding on Lake Victoria with 700 guests and the president of Uganda in attendance. The extremes from abject poverty to decadent wealth have been a shock and eye-opening. At the end of each day, he returns to a small cottage on the edge of Kampala with a yard that is populated by dozens of monkeys and goats. He has grown very close to some of the Acholi (the refugee tribe), but is ready for home. He's trying to bring me two children and their young mother that he has become especially attached to, but it is unlikely to happen.

All this, and he hasn't even started his sophomore year! Again, thanks for asking.

I use the 9-day EMA and find it a very accurate for short-term targets. Not much difference between the two.

In the short time that I have been here I have learned a great deal. I have a feeling the learning will never end as it seems that the market and the techniques used to trade it effectively are ever changing.
